About Shobdo PBC

We are a Public Benefit Corporation dedicated to democratizing access to global linguistic resources. We serve as a digital custodian for the world's languages.

The name Shobdo derives from the Bengali word “শব্দ”, signifying both “word” and “sound.” It is a fitting designation for an organization built around the structure and meaning of language itself.

We established Shobdo to address a straightforward observation. The world's languages are served unevenly by the digital tools intended to support them. While a few major languages possess deep lexical infrastructure, the majority are left with fragmented or absent digital references.

This disparity creates a structural impediment to education, communication, and equitable participation in a digital world. We build, standardize, and maintain a unified linguistic database that affords every supported language equivalent rigor and care.
